Portrait focuses on care givers. It can be difficult for care staff, giving their limited time and training, to initiate conversations with residents with communication problems like late stage dementia.
Portrait allows care staff to see multimedia ‘Portraits’ of their patients, accessed quickly through touch screens, showing key events in their lives, family, preferences, hobbies and interests. Within three minutes, care staff have details to start a stimulating conversation with the person about the events outlined in his/her portrait.
Portrait is one of the reminiscence and memory therapy technologies backed by SiDE(Social Inclusion through the Digital Economy), an interdisciplinary research project aimed at realising the potential for digital technologies to transform the lives of people who are socially excluded.
